Compilations took a number of the top spots on the 2009 Top World Albums chart, with “Playing for Change: Songs Around the World,” released on Hear Music, coming in on top. “Paris Magnifique,” which came out on EMI Special Markets/Starbucks, was at No. 11, and “World Is Africa,” on Universal Special Markets came in at No. 13. “Tis the Season: Celtic Christmas” also charted at No. 9.
And that’s only the beginning of the Celtic domination of the chart. Celtic Thunder stormed the chart, with “Act Two” at No. 3, a self titled effort at No. 5, and “Take Me Home” at No. 6. All the albums were released via Celtic Thunder/Decca.
