Warner/Chappell Australia GM Matthew Capper has been promoted to managing director of the Sydney-based music publisher.
Capper, who joined the company in 2003, will be responsible for bolstering the affiliate's A&R activities and has made a key hire in this area. Former Warner/Chappell U.K. A&R manager Jane Jacob joins the Australian company as an A&R consultant, based in Melbourne. Described by Warner/Chappell U.K. managing director Richard Manners as an "accomplished talent-spotter," Jacob has been closely involved in the signing and development of such singer-songwriters as Paolo Nutini, Amy MacDonald and Murray James.
Capper's promotion recognizes the exec's "achievements in enhancing the company's position in the region, particularly through sync licensing for our Anglo-American repertoire," according to Manners, to whom he reports.
Prior to working at Warner/Chappell, Capper served as the administration manager at Festival Music Publishing, a now-defunct Australian independent music publishing firm which was acquired by Mushroom Music in 2005. Just a year after joining Warner/Chappell as a copyright/royalty analyst, Capper was elevated to GM.
At the age of 30, he was elected in 2007 to the board of APRA, becoming the youngest-ever director of the authors' rights society. Capper also serves as a director of APRA's sister organization AMCOS, as a director and deputy chair of the Australasian Music Publisher's Association Limited (AMPAL), and finds the time to write and record his own compositions.
