Universal Music Group International has promoted three senior executives - George Ash, Sandy Monteiro and Vico Antippas.
All three of them report to Max Hole, who (as previously reported) becomes chief operating officer for Universal Music Group International, with effect from July 1.
Ash has been elevated to the new role as president of Universal Music Australasia, for the major's business in Australia and New Zealand. With his new responsibilities for Universal's New Zealand business, Ash will work closely with the company's Auckland-based chairman, Adam Holt.
"George and his team have seized market leadership in Australia with determination and flair, developing a vibrant domestic roster alongside Universal Music's traditional strength with international superstars," said Hole in a statement. "I have no doubt that, with his new, wider responsibilities, he will continue to succeed."
Ash added, "Our strong focus on A&R activities, artist development, new business and digital development will continue to result in significant growth."
Ash is currently managing director of Universal Music Australia and chairman of Australian neighboring rights body PPCA. Prior to joining Universal in 1995, he served in various executive roles at BMG and PolyGram, and later launched Universal's company in his native New Zealand.
With Ash at the helm, Universal Music Australia landed 2009's top-selling album by an Australian act, with the Hilltop Hoods' chart-topping "State of the Art." The music major also saw its buzz boyband Short Stack bow at No. 1 with their debut album "Stack is the New Black," the first time a local band had achieved the feat since Silverchair did it with "Frogstomp" (Murmur/Epic) in 1995.
Sandy Monteiro is promoted to president, South East Asia. He has been SVP, South East Asia for three years, in charge of Universal Music's operations across the region, including its digital activities. He will continue to hold these duties in his new post, based in Singapore, while adding responsibility for UMGI's regional functions in Hong Kong.
Since joining Universal Music in 2002, Monteiro is credited with taking the company in Malaysia to market leadership, as well as boosting the major's performance in Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
"First and foremost, Sandy is a music man," commented Hole. "Among many achievements, he has successfully spearheaded a strategic push to rebuild our domestic repertoire business in a number of markets, while at the same time he and his team have set industry standards in the digital music sector. This promotion recognizes his determination and his vision."
Monteiro previously held posts at Warner Music, MCA and Soundbuzz. He was also chairman of the Recording Industry Association of Malaysia from 2004-2010.
Vico Antippas adds responsibility for South Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, and India to his role as president, Nordic, Benelux, Central and Eastern Europe.
Managing directors Rajat Kakar (India) and Harry Voerman (South Africa/sub-Saharan Africa) will report to him.
Antippas joined Universal Music in 1983, and has headed operations in Greece, Austria, Switzerland and Germany. He was promoted to SVP, Central and Eastern Europe, in 2004, and has been President, Nordic, Benelux, Central and Eastern Europe for the past three years.
