Motorhead 'Outraged' Over $600 Box Set, Urge Fans Not to Buy
February 21, 2012   |    By Portia Medina/THR with Billboard staff

Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister is incensed about a new box set that he says is gouging fans for upwards of $600.

The Complete Early Years, which includes 15 discs along with band pins, posters and a photo book all inside a skull package that lights up, was recently released by by PID, which has rights to the band's early recordings. But even with all the bells and whistles, Kilmister is telling devotees not to buy it.

"Unfortunately greed once again rears its yapping head," Kilmister said in a post on the band's website. "I would advise against it even for the most rabid completists!"

The post continues: "Motörhead have no control over what's done with these early songs, and don't want fans to think that the band is involved in putting out such a costly box set." The post notes that Motorhead have a new album and DVD out ( The Wörld Is Yours and The Wörld Is Ours, Vol 1 - Everywhere Further Than Everyplace Else), and "the band hopes fans will choose these new releases over this outrageously expensive box set."
