Dave Matthews Band Returns to the Road
February 15, 2012   |    By Ray Waddell, Nashville

Dave Matthews Band, one of the most successful touring bands in history, will embark on a full-blown North American summer tour after taking 2011 off the road save for four regional DMB-curated festivals known as Caravans.

DMB sold more tickets than any act on the planet in the first decade of this century, according to Billboard Boxscore, moving more than 11.2 million tickets in the years 2000-2009. The band grossed $61.2 million and sold more than 1 million ticket on its last tour in 2010, according to Boxscore.

Dave Matthews Band's Caravan Festival: Details Announced

This year's tour begins May 18 at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in Woodlands, Texas, and will feature numerous two-night stands, including visits at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. (June 8-9) and the Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, Fla. (July 20-21). A West Coast run over Labor Day weekend features three nights (August 31, September 1-2) at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Wash., where DMB has headlined 40 shows since 1997. The full itinerary is below.

An online presale for members of the DMB Warehouse Fan Association will begin this Thursday, February 16, at 10:00 AM ET at www.warehouse.davematthewsband.com. Dave Matthews to Play Acoustic Set for Charity of Ticket-Buyers' Choosing

The band recently went into the studio with Steve Lillywhite - who produced the band's first three studio albums, Under The Table And Dreaming, Crash and Before These Crowded Streets - to begin work on its forthcoming album, which will be released this year. Details on how to order the album will be announced soon. It will be the follow-up to the Platinum-certified Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King (RCA), which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2009, making Dave Matthews Band one of only two groups in history to have five consecutive studio albums enter atop the chart. Dave Matthews Band - comprising Carter Beauford (drums), Stefan Lessard (bass), Dave Matthews (vocals, guitar) and Boyd Tinsley (violin)  - has sold over 17 million tickets since its inception and a collective 37 million CDs and DVDs combined.
